Mother
Like
a friendly shadow
She's always been there...
Caring,
but not pushy
concerned, yet restrained
Expressive, but not imposing
supportive, yet independent
Anxious, but not foreboding
creative, yet compliant
Believing, but not unreasonable
hopeful, yet human
Concerned, but not meddlesome
realistic, yet respectful
Accomplished, but not aloof
instructive, yet receptive
Appreciative, but not rediculous
parental, yet warm
At
age ninety, Mother, you are
still
my hero, my mentor, and my
friend

Grandchildren

Our
Little Ones
With
hearts aburst we brought them here
To be loved beyond reason
To be cared for at any cost
To be surrendered with open hand
to Him who gave
From hearts adream they issued
To honor our young home
with the mere fact
that they are here
To embody the wordless awesomeness
of the divine mystery
of life's increase
To endow us with a holy, human
internal orchestral rhapsody
that heretofore simply could not exist
Through hearts aflamed we yearn for them
To mature in a home of God's imparting
To seek out God because of human example
To produce in others more than they found in us
by Richard A. Nelson (for his kids)
